ICE
My recommendations for icing an injured area are simple. Just apply an ice pack—a frozen bag of peas will work—to the area for twenty minutes. Do this a couple of hours each day and it will help to remove the swelling. Remember to have a barrier between the ice and your skin otherwise you can have freezer burn. Ouch!
EXERCISE
Exercise is a vague recommendation, but the vast majority of problems that present to the office are lower back related. In that case, the best thing to do is to walk as much as possible. Individualized exercise programs are provided when necessary.
BACK BELT
In extreme cases, a back belt is often necessary to provide the lumbar spine with additional support. I have found the best back belts are available at Home Depot.
