Maximizing Your Energy—Tense Energy vs Calm Energy
Most of us spend our lives in this limited corner of our actual potential or capacity. And the reason we do that is because we have no idea of what might actually be possible. We are comparing ourselves to the best of what is common. All the people around us who are tense, tired, and limited in their energy, presence, and ingenuity. Then we start to assume that our current situation (living in pain, financial distress, etc.) is the best there is. If we could be a little better, that would be good. Unfortunately, that’s the blindness to a greater you.
The Four Keystones To Maximum Potential:
1. Trust. The more we can deepen our trust radius, the way we can count on others the freer we become. It frees us from having to cover our back. Great leaders, great neighbors, great healers, and great spouses cultivate trust. These people illuminate trust to the people around them.
2. Energy. When I talk about energy, I mean to be a 100% alive. How do you unblock what is in you so that you can bring it your life. Energy also allows you to pay exceptional attention to the things that matter. We live in a world where there is a lot of rushing, a lot of motion, but not much direction. A lot of effort, but not much energy. People are struggling. Energy unlocks possibilities. Energy is structural. It has a lot to do with breathing, our physical activity level, the way we eat and sleep. It also has to do with posture. We are living in a head forward, leaning forward society. There is some intriguing evidence coming from Southern California Medical School suggesting that a slight slumping forward cuts off up to 30% of blood and oxygen to our brain and senses. So, we need to know that there are two forms of energy: Calm energy and Tense energy. Calm energy manifest as low physical tension, low rigidity, and high energy. This is rare. Only a few muscles work to hold us up. Only the muscles that are needed brace us upright. Athletes would relate to economy of work. The other, Tense energy, creates stress hormones and gives the illusion of energy. We are not very alive. Instead, caving in to a pre-historic state of emergency—flight and fight.
3. Farsightedness. The best individuals in the world are the ones that manage to look ahead. They look father ahead than anybody else. The higher the pressure, the short-sighted, the more rigid one becomes.
4. Nerve. Beyond the anatomical definition, nerve means an approach to life characterized by courage, exploration, and spirit.
You have thousands of opportunities to display calm energy.
